Anchors Away: Decor for the Ultimate Nautical-Themed Bachelorette Party

Planning a bachelorette party with serious seaside charm? A nautical theme is one of the most versatile and photogenic directions you can go — it works at a beach house, by the pool, on a boat, or even in a living room with the right decor. We threw a full nautical bachelorette for one of my best friends in San Diego, and I'm sharing everything we used, what actually worked, and what I'd skip next time.

1. Set the scene with coastal decor

The key to making a nautical theme feel elevated rather than costume-y is committing to a tight color palette: navy blue, crisp white, blush pink, and warm gold or rope-toned neutrals. Keep everything within that range and even budget Amazon finds will look intentional.

The piece that did the most work for us was the letter board. We spelled out "Last Sail Before the Veil" and propped it on the drink table — it became the backdrop for half our photos and immediately told guests what the vibe was. Worth every penny.

The lifebuoy wall decor is what takes the space from "we bought some blue stuff" to "this was clearly planned." Hang two flanking your drink station or photo wall and it looks like a styled shoot. We got so many compliments on these and they cost almost nothing.

Sailor hats for the whole group sound cheesy until everyone's actually wearing them — then they're the best thing you did. Write each person's name on the inside brim with a Sharpie so they don't get mixed up. They also make great keepsakes.

For the table: "Let's Get Nauti" napkins and "I Do Crew" napkins scattered throughout the setup reinforce the theme without you having to do much. The tabletop chalkboard is great for labeling the drink station or writing a welcome message for the bride. The silver frame works beautifully for a printed "Last Sail Before the Veil" sign — print one on cardstock and pop it in.

One tip: skip ordering decorative snacks through Amazon. Grab Goldfish, Gatorade, and Pirates Booty at Target or Trader Joe's the morning of — you'll save money and they'll arrive fresher. Save your affiliate budget for the decor pieces that actually make the room.

If you want truly special custom cookies for the bride's table, Hayley Cakes and Cookies does incredible custom work and ships nationwide.

2. Create an Instagram-worthy photo spot

You don't need a professional backdrop — you need one wall that looks intentional and a few props the group can interact with. For our nautical party, we used the Last Sail balloon banner as the anchor of the photo wall. It's big, it's readable in photos, and it sets up perfectly against a white or navy backdrop.

Add a simple vase with white florals at floor level for depth, and you've got a photo spot that looks like it took hours but took about 20 minutes to set up.

The detail that made our photos actually special: an Instax camera for the group. We taped all the printed photos into a small journal at the end of the night and gave it to the bride as a keepsake. It's become one of those things every bachelorette group we know has copied.

3. Dress the Crew

A nautical theme is one of the few bachelorette themes where the outfits can actually be worn again — which means people are more willing to invest. We went with a Wife of the Party / "The Party" matching shirt set from Etsy for the bride and MOH, and let the rest of the group wear white or navy.

The two accessories that pulled the whole look together: nautical temporary tattoos (anchors, "Last Sail Before the Veil," little ropes — they look adorable in photos and wash off easily) and personalized floppy hats with "Bride" or custom names embroidered. The hats are especially worth it if you're doing an outdoor party or heading to the beach — practical and cute.

4. Style the table and serve in style

The table is where the photos happen, so it's worth spending a few extra minutes on the details. We layered blue plastic plates with leaf-shaped plates underneath for texture — the combination looks much more intentional than a single plate style, and both are disposable so cleanup is easy.

Decorative leaf sprigs scattered around the table add the kind of organic detail that photographs beautifully without requiring any floral arranging skills. The striped cups tie the navy and white palette together.

The touch that made our table feel truly personal: wooden place card name signs from Etsy at each seat. They're inexpensive, they look elevated, and guests often take them home as a keepsake.

5. Thank your first mates with favors

Favors are the detail people remember because they take them home. For a nautical party, you have such good options — the theme lends itself to things that are actually useful, not just decorative.

Our favorite: personalized striped beach bags from Etsy with each guest's name. They doubled as the favor itself and as the vessel for everything else — we stuffed each one with sunscreen, a granola bar, and a mini water bottle. Guests were genuinely thrilled.

The mini champagne/wine labels that say "Last Sail Before the Veil" are a small detail that makes a huge impression — stick them on mini prosecco bottles and tie with ribbon for an easy favor that photographs beautifully. The satin ribbon from Amazon is perfect for this.

If you're doing a beach or pool party, personalized towels for the bride and MOH are an elevated favor option — practical, photo-ready, and something they'll actually use.
